Suncor confirms that a worker onboard the Terra Nova FPSO was injured while doing gas testing on board the vessel.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, Suncor says they responded to a team member who fell from a ladder inside a tank while conducting gas testing on board the Terra Nova FPSO.
Suncor says the person is in stable condition and has been transferred onshore by helicopter for further medical assessment.
They claim that onsite emergency services immediately responded to provide support.
Suncor says the C-NLOPB has been notified and they have initiated an investigation into the cause of this incident.
The offshore operator says safety of their employees is their top priority.
Work Was Safety-Related, as Production Operations Still Suspended
Meanwhile, the C-NLOPB says the task being undertaken by the injured worker onboard the Terra Nova FPSO was safety-focused and not included in the scope of suspended activity.
An Order to Suspend production-related operations was previously issued by the C-NLOPB on December 19, 2019 in response to another issue.
The C-NLOPB says they are reviewing this incident, along with others that have recently taken place on facilities operated by Suncor Energy in the province’s offshore.
Production-related operations remain suspended on the Terra Nova FPSO and will not resume until Suncor Energy has received approval from the C-NLOPB.
