A year into the new Drug Treatment Court, the province’s justice minister says it’s been a huge success.
With any new initiative, there is a learning curve between all parties.
It’s not just a justice initiative, as when dealing with drug testing, counselling and addictions, they need to look to the Department of Health, which Andrew Parsons says has been a good working relationship.
He says there have been about 40 applications gone in over the last year.
Parsons expects that number to grow as more people become aware, and the reaction from those involved and who have observed have been extremely positive.
He wants this program expanded to the west coast, in central and in Labrador.
Parsons believes there is a willingness from all partners including judges, lawyers and those who realize they cannot continue living in a downward spiral, and want to participate and get help for what’s causing a lot of their negative actions.
