NDP MHA Jordan Brown says the Premier should give up his position of Minister responsible for Labrador after the closure of the Labrador Affairs office in Wasbush.
Brown stated in a release that the action taken over the holiday is a slap in the face to Labradorians.
Brown says the closure is quite a blow to the region. He calls closing a Labrador affairs office in Labrador “unreal.”
Brown says the office was crucial component in handling major files, such as the closure of the Wabush Mine, not only in Lab West but throughout the big land.
Meanwhile, government says the office was closed because it was not needed any more. The Executive Director position was created in 2012 during a downturn in the economy. Now, government says they are realigning resources at the Labrador Affairs Secretariat and the position is no longer required.
