The cause of the fire is still unknown at a hard-to-reach home in St. John’s last night.
Around 12:30 crews responded to a house fire on Groves Road, north of the Outer Ring Road. Heavy smoke was coming from the home as fire fighters made entry into the basement, however fire had gone through the main floor already.
Wires arcing overhead caused concern for firefighter safety, so Newfoundland Power was also called.
There were issues getting on to the street due to the overnight blizzard, and the City was called in to clear the road.
Paradise station also responded with their tanker and engine, as there are no hydrants in the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
