A retired cab driver is reminding people to slow down and not to tailgate.
Doug McCarthy says it’s the side streets and the hills that are the most treacherous for drivers during winter storms. He says people often think cabs are taking the long way around.
McCarthy says they try to avoid hills, and are trying to get people to where they need to go in the safest way possible.
During a storm, be prepared to wait a bit longer to get a cab, says McCarthy. He says dispatchers should say there will be delays up to 45 minutes to an hour to get to where you’re going.
If you’re depending on one to get to work, call early. McCarthy says with poor road conditions it takes taxi’s just as long to get around as everyone else.
