An ambulance operator credits snowplow operators for helping them get to a patient in an emergency during the height of the storm around midnight Sunday.
The winds were raging and there was 20-plus cm already on the ground when Smith’s Ambulance got the call from Norman’s Cove.
Normally they wouldn’t dispatch an ambulance in those conditions but the caller said the man was suffering from chest pain, a situation which requires immediate attention.
Owner Wade Smith says he contacted the Department of Works, Services and Transportation and they responded with two plows to clear the TCH between Whitbourne and Norman’s Cove. He says that’s the only thing that allowed them to be able to get there safely and back, and Smith thanks the department and the operators for making the difference.
