A professional organizer in St. John’s says having a lot of clutter in the house can cause health problems.
April Miller says it’s not uncommon for households to have a buildup of clutter around this time of year following the onslaught of gifts. The toughest part can be just where to begin. Miller says one first has to establish what they plan to do as it may be best to do a room at a time as opposed to decluttering the entire house.
Miller says if a room is being used for an unintended purpose, then it’s probably cluttered. She also says accessibility is very important.
Clutter can cause problems for people with allergies or breathing problems because of the amount of dust collected.
If you have to turn sideways to get through a room or hallway, or there are “goatpaths” through the house, then there is an issue.
