The snow is falling and is making for slick driving conditions. Winds are picking up, resulting in reduced visibility. A school bus slid off the road on Sheldon Drive in Bay Bulls this afternoon at slow speed and remained upright, a caller to the VOCM Newsroom says a bus servicing Gonzaga went off the road in the Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove area, and another bus went off the road in Paradise on Deborah Lynn Heights..

5-10 cm of snow is expected on the Avalon, Bonavista and Burin peninsulas before changing to rain this evening. The rest of the island – from Central Newfoundland to the west coast – is in for about 20-25 cm. Labrador will escape unscathed.
More snow is in the forcast into tomorrow afternoon before tapering off to flurries.
Mike VandenBerg from the Gander Weather office says the big issue will be the wind.
Winds become strong overnight, with southeasterlies gusting up to 130 km/h for the southern Avalon, and between 100 and 110 for the northern Avalon and Burin Peninsula.
Large waves and pounding surf are expected in Placentia and St. Mary’s Bay overnight.
VandenBerg says during tomorrow morning’s commute, expect high northwesterly winds gusting up to 80 km/h which will last all day. Blowing snow may be an issue which could cause a crust on the snow and create slippery conditions for the evening commute.
