With more snow on the way a team of dedicated and adventurous volunteers are ready to go to help get essential and emergency workers to their jobs.
The SWAT – or Severe Weather Assistance Team – started out in this province with two Jeep enthusiasts who noticed similar efforts in other provinces. Since then, the SWAT group has grown, with 700 new members joining in the last few days alone. Laurie Crane is one of those volunteers and a proud “Jeeper”.
Volunteers will lend assistance getting doctors, nurses, emergency workers and other essential staff in to work, while others enjoy a snow day.
Crane, who owns a 2018 JL, says most members have specialized and modified rigs that can get through all kinds of conditions.
Most have bigger tires, winches and tow straps. Volunteers are ready to go when buses and taxis have been taken off the road.
Essential workers can contact them through their Facebook page.
