Memorial University was the site of a candlelight vigil for those who lost their life on the plane crash from Iran to Ukraine.
Of the 176 people killed in the crash, 63 were Canadian citizens. Many of those on the flight were connecting to Canada.

Mahya Soleimani is a PhD student from Iran and helped organize the event.
She says they were all students or Iranian-Canadian citizens who all hoped to start new lives in Canada after facing a constant barrage of difficulties.
Soleimani says people of St. John’s have been supporting the Iranian community and standing by them since the beginning.
