The province’s finance minister believes the federal government is “sincere” in working towards providing rate mitigation.
Tom Osborne says the feds have indicated their desire to help the province on a number of occasions, with a commitment coming from Prmie Minister Justin Trudeau and federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau.
However, Osborne kept a tight lip about negotiations. He says while he won’t negotiate in public in terms of where they are on the $200-million needed for rate mitigation, he does feel the federal government is sincere in moving forward with the file.
Osborne is confident he will see a positive resolution and ensures that electricity rates will not double.
