With summer comes an increase in emergency room visits to the Janeway.
While the majority of injuries seen by Janeway emergency room doctors are the result of kids being kids, some are preventable.
Dr. Archna Shah says they tend to see a spike in trampoline injuries in the summer, along with other fall injuries. Those include bike injuries, as well as injuries as the result of ATV and dirt bike accidents.
Dr. Shah says most of the cases they see involve broken bones, some of which can be severe. She advises against stunting, and recommends adult supervision when children are involved in potentially risky activities.
Ideally there should be more than one adult supervising children on a trampoline. There should be no more than one child on a trampoline at a time, and children under six should not use a trampoline because their strength and co-ordination is not fully developed.
