A touching tribute took to the rink in Clarenville this weekend as the community paid respects to a young hockey player.
The Clarenville Minor Hockey Association launched Minor Hockey Week with a special ceremony in honour of ten-year-old Joshua Wilcox—a young athlete who died in a tragic accident on Christmas day.
Members of the local Atom team lined the rink for their annual tournament, wearing jerseys adorned with the name ‘Wilcox.’
Minor Hockey Association President Stephen Thistle says the community is pulling together following the tragedy.
He calls the level of support they’ve received “tremendous,” having come from all corners of the community, the province, and across the country.
It’s the second loss the community suffered in 2019, as another young athlete—Darian Hunt—passed away from leukemia in the spring.
