It will be at least another year before the province see’s Clare’s Law come into full effect.
Justice Minister Andrew Parsons says the issue now is not the legislation, but the actual protocol.
Parsons says it’s a process where they need to figure out how to set up this initiative that will see one partner’s former record of abuse disclosed to another intimate partner.
When it comes to the release of people’s information, Parsons says they want to make sure they think of every possible angle.
Parsons claims from what they’ve seen elsewhere in places like Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia, the process can take roughly a year.
He says they won’t rush it, and in the end he believes they will have a solid protocol that will protect people, primarily women, in the province.
