A local bakery is once again baking cookies for a good cause – this time they’re Koalas.
Volcano Bakery could only keep their new, adorable Koala cookies on the shelf for just over a half an hour on Wednesday. Proceeds from the cookies are going towards fighting the Australian wildfires.
Co-owner, Krista Neville says she wanted to do her part in raising money to fight the fires, and many people out there don’t have large sums of money to send. She figured this was a way that everyone can feel like they’re involved in making a contribution.
Neville made about 60 cookies that took about twelve hours to make, and only thirty minutes to be all gone. She says everybody has a sweet tooth, a yearning to help out, and a feeling that you can do a little bit more.
Neville jokes that she is secretly praying for a snow storm on Friday so she has the time to bake more Koala cookies. She says she wasn’t expecting them to sell out so quickly.
It’s not the first cookie fundraiser Volcano Bakery has put off, and Neville believes when raising money and awareness, it should start inside of the community. She says these fundraising efforts they do bring people together, and get them supporting the same cause.
