The President of the Registered Nurses’ Union of Newfoundland Labrador says there has been endless incredible stories coming out of various healthcare centres on the province’s east coast.
Debbie Forward says some of their members went into work on Thursday evening, despite being scheduled, and stayed overnight in preparation for the storm.
Many were there for 60 plus hours as relief was not available.
Forward says nurses stepped up and did what needed to be done.
She says they had patients to care for while there were other needs that had to be met such as helping with dietary and serving food when staff couldn’t get in, and pitched in shoveling snow. Forward says it’s one incredible story after another.
She says she is filled with so much pride, and the stories don’t surprise her.
The sense of community within healthcare facilities amazes Forward. She says it has been overwhelming to see the teamwork and support.
