One group of volunteers is doing what it can to help neighbours downtown.
Ruth Lawrence is part of a group who have been busy trying to help people shovel out doors and vehicles following Friday’s storm.
She says they’ve already shoveled out about 12 homes. She jokes the idea sprang from a place of “pure shame.”
Someone shoveled out her door on the night of the storm, and after things died down, she took a walk around the neighbourhood and saw how bad things were, so she put a crew together.
She says the Georgetown neighbourhood has been great and didn’t seem to need much help, so they expanded their focus and have volunteers all over the downtown area.
People started messaging her with jobs where people needed help.
