As hundreds of soldiers continue to help following the massive blizzard, one woman from Cowan Heights says members of the military are doing what “could mean the difference between life and death.”
Last month, Carolann Harris donated a kidney to her husband Chris. As they are still recovering from the surgery, neither is allowed to do any shoveling.
She says their 14-year-old son and some neighbours tried to move the mountain of snow from the driveway, but “it was just too much.”
Harris says she was left with no choice but to call the help line.

Harris says the next morning they were awoken by the sound of six soldiers clearing their driveway, so an ambulance could get in, in case of an emergency.
The wife and mother of two says she was brought to tears by the way the military and her neighbours handled the situation.
“Just knowing that we could go to bed, and I didn’t have to be on alert and keep checking on him, was a huge relief,” Harris said.

Harris said, “I can’t thank them enough for doing something as simple as shoveling a driveway, and how it could mean the difference between life and death for a lot of people.”
She reflected, “There’s a lot of beautiful things going on in this city right now.
