Most businesses in St. John’s are still closed as the State of Emergency extends into day seven.
That’s having an impact on small businesses.
Gaylynne Lambert is with Downtown St. John’s. She indicates downtown businesses are hurting this time of year, even in the best of circumstances.

Estimates are that downtown businesses employ some 10,000 people, many of whom earn their living on an hourly wage. That’s tough, says Lambert.
She says Newfoundlanders are resilient and she’s hopeful the economic impact won’t force too many businesses to close their doors permanently.
They’re also watching and waiting to see if potential disaster relief may be forthcoming.
