If you’re not a fan of the snow, you’re in luck – significant rainfall is on the way for a large portion of the island tomorrow.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for eastern Newfoundland and much of central, while the south coast is under rainfall warnings.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Alex Kleminsky, says he recommends cleaning storm drains.
In the metro region temperatures are expected to rise just above freezing, bringing with it between 5 and 15 mm of rain beginning Monday morning. In central the amounts will remain about the same, except things will start off as freezing rain before transitioning to rain tomorrow afternoon.
On the south coast the rainfall will be much more intense, with between 20 40 mm possible.
It will be a much more different story on the northern portion of the island, however. Snowfall warnings are in effect from Green Bay-White Bay going up the Northern Peninsula.
Between 10 to 20 cm of snow is expected overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning, with freezing rain mixing in with the snow for the first few hours.
