Shaking off the cabin fever was the goal in the capital city yesterday as the state of emergency was lifted for the first time in over a week.
As the sun began to rise over downtown St. John’s, the people started to come out.
Some were looking to go shopping, while others just wanted to breath in some of the crisp January air.
VOCM News took to the streets to see how people were feeling since the state of emergency was lifted.

Two walkers exclaimed that it was “awesome” to be able to get out again. Another lady was out to get groceries and said she was just happy to get out of the house.
One man walking the streets had only arrived in the province a few days earlier from Halifax.
When asked what he thought of all of the snow and the massive snow clearing effort, he had only one word to describe it.
“Snowmageddon.”
He notes the amount of work city staff have put in to clean up the downtown since the storm ended, saying he had seen about 500 dump trucks full of snow the day before.
