MHA Paul Lane is calling on government to review labour legislation in the province.
Since the State of Emergency, many workers, families and businesses are facing financial challenges.
With help from the federal government, Lane believes funding should be put in place to support those in need.
But when it comes to the “very profitable” employers in the province, he believes there should be legislative provisions in place for them to pay out. Lane says he would like to see a review to determine if there is a way to make that happen without impacting small business owners.
Wages aside, Lane also detailed how workers have contacted him about feeling bullied into coming into work during the State of Emergency and issues like that should also be specifically addressed in the Labour Standards Act.
