Level 3 charging stations are needed in the province if the electric car market is to take off.
That’s according to Brett Favaro, one of the co-chairs of Decarbonize NL, a two-day conference starting today at MUN’s Signal Hill campus.
Favaro says government policy needs to catch up in order to make electric vehicles more viable.
He says there are two ways to charge an electric car. One is to plug it in normally, which takes a very long time, or for highway driving, you need a Level 3 charging station, which can charge the car in 30 minutes to an hour.
He says there are more affordable versions of electric cars available.
He says cars like the Chevy Bolt make good institutional vehicles and can save “a ton of money” for governments and businesses.
