A big disappointment for hockey fans in Central Newfoundland.
The Gander Flyers have suspended hockey operations for the season, and will not be going ahead with the 12-game series against Grand Falls.
General manager and assistant coach Geoff Goldsworthy says while they were able to establish a roster, they were unable to secure a game day roster from their active player list, due to personal and work commitments.

He says they felt it was in the best interest of their fans, and the operation as a whole, to look toward the fall, and suspend hockey for the remainder of the season.
Goldsworthy calls the current process an “uphill battle” for the Gander Flyers and the Central League in general, pointing the finger of blame on a failure to get support for interlocking play with the East and West leagues.
Goldsworthy says fundraising continues, and they plan to come back next season to rebuild their hockey club.
