A series of issues, not the least of which is the weather, have prevented the province from shutting off the water to the resettled town of Little Bay Islands as of yet.
Former resident of the town Perry Locke warned this week that the water had not been shut off as promised. Intending to use his former home as a summer residence, Locke was concerned over the possibility of flooding.
A release from the province says since the resettlement date of December 31, weather conditions have not been cooperative for getting on site.
As well, a failure of the shutoff mechanism means that heavy equipment may be required to dig up the water line.
The department is currently reviewing options to have the water shut off as soon as possible.
