The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health calls this the beginning of social distancing in Newfoundland and Labrador, in an effort to contain and control a possible COVID-19 outbreak.
To date, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Verafin, which employs just over 500 people is one of a number of companies putting measures in place with social distancing in mind.
The company is conducting a one-day test this Monday to get most of their employees to work from home. The test is being used to see how well it works and find areas for improvement.
In the meantime, the company is asking employees who can work from home without affecting productivity to do so.
Verafin has cancelled or postponed all non-essential business travel and large company gatherings, and they’re asking workers who have travelled to countries on Health Canada’s advisory list to self-isolate.
