A series of financial setbacks could spell the end for the Trinity-Placentia Stadium in Whitbourne.
It all started with the breakdown of the stadium’s brine pump that is part of the cooling system. That resulted in significant repair costs just prior to the 2018-19 season. The search began for a new pump, resulting in a loss of revenue for ten days. Ice rental fees were increased to recover the costs, but the not-for-profit experienced another setback, when the chillder system broke down. A part was flown-in from Sweden resulting in a 12-day loss of revenue and increased costs.
The commission suffered yet another blow when they learned that because of the age of the stadium and equipment breakdowns, the cost of their insurance was doubling as of this week.
The commission issued a notification that it is seeking other sources of income and must raise $55,000 over the next seven months in order to keep the stadium in operation. A fundraising effort is now underway. For more information, email TrinityPlacentia@hotmail.com.
