The Founder of Parents for Affordable Childcare NL is raising questions about a comprehensive plan following the closure of daycare centres across the province.
Premier Ball has said a lot of services that would be impacted financially by COVID-19 would be covered, but Gillian Pearson says there is a lot of panic and chaos online because parents don’t have the answers they need.
Pearson says they’re looking for answers in terms of paying for spaces or finding a secondary space and adding additional costs. She says daycare centres aren’t sure if they should be laying off workers or if fees would be covered so they can pay them moving forward.
The Jimmy Pratt Foundation is spearheading a letter to the government with Parents for Affordable Childcare, MUNSU, and others signing it.
Pearson wants swift clarification, and encourages the government to follow the lead of Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil.
