A woman in Corner Brook is facing charges for failing to abide by the province’s directives to self-isolate.
A report was received yesterday afternoon regarding a woman who had recently arrived from out of province, and was not self-isolating.
Police approached the 53-year-old woman in a public area informing her of the importance of abiding by rules under the Public Health Protection and Promotion Act in place to prevent the spread of illness, but she refused to comply.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says as a result, she was arrested and held to appear before a Judge.
The woman was not showing any symptoms of illness.
Constable Cadigan says government has put laws in place to ensure public safety and police will be enforcing those laws.
356 public complaints were received up to yesterday. Most have been found to be groundless, 27 of those investigations have concluded and 25 need further follow-up today. RNC cadets are reviewing the reports with the assistance of the Department of Health. RNC are asking that people not call police on non-compliance of self-isolation requirements. The public must report through an online report form provided by the provincial government.
