The province now has its first case of community transmission of COVID-19.
At the daily press conference on the status of the virus, Chief Medical Officer Janice Fitzgerald confirmed the case occurred in the central health region.
This new case is one of 18 new confirmed cases in the province: 16 in Eastern Health region, one in central health, and one in Labrador Grenfell-Health, bringing the total in the province to 120.
Two people have been hospitalized by the illness to date, and four have made a full recovery.
Dr. Fitzgerald says having a case of community transmission is a significant development.
As well, premier Dwight Ball says we have one of the highest infection rates in the country for the virus, second only to Quebec.
Meanwhile, Ball says the 2020 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer games set to take place in August is now postponed
