A 30-year-old Kippens man is in a heap of trouble after being stopped on the TCH near Corner Brook.
Police were directing traffic at the site of a transport truck salvage operation just west of Corner Brook on the Trans-Canada when a vehicle was spotted speeding by. They clocked the vehicle travelling at 98 km/h in a reduced 50 km/h zone near work crews and firefighting personnel. RNC then stopped the vehicle but the driver ran down the bank and into the ditch.
Officers determined the man was on court-ordered conditions not to be in contact with his passenger. Then, during the arrest, an altercation broke out and a police officer was struck in the face. Medical attention was not needed.
The 30-year-old driver, who is from Kippens, was held for a bail hearing. He faces charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and breaches.
He was also handed a speeding ticket and the vehicle was towed.
