Premier Dwight Ball is asking those in Labrador who travel across the border into Quebec at places like Fermont and Blanc Sablon to do so only if absolutely necessary.
He had a call with the mayors of Labrador City and Wabush about the issue.
Not only does the request affect people in Labrador West, but Premier Ball asks those who frequent Blanc Sablon and the Labrador Straits to travel only if essential.
Checkpoints are now in place at the border, including Wabush to Fermont, Quebec, as the province works with Quebec to ensure that people are complying with safety measures.
The Premier was firm that ‘cheaper prices’ are no excuse. He says traveling to Quebec to seek products like cigarettes and alcohol does not equate to essential travel.
