A local dairy farmer says the industry is more than ready to handle the demands of consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yesterday Agriculture Minister Gerry Byrne announced that last week farmers had to throw away 170,000 litres of spoiled milk due to a lack of orders from stores.
Crosbie Williams owns and operates Pondview Farms in the Goulds.
Williams notes he typically produces about 135,000 litres of milk per day by comparison.
He says the dairy industry has adapted well to the challenges presented by the virus, and there is no need to limit the amount people can buy.
He says there is an “abundant” supply of milk and encourages families to go pick up what they need while keeping their loved ones safe.
