A special weather statement has been issued for the island on Friday which will bring some nasty weather.
Julianna Paul, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says the system will start as snow in the southwest and make its way northeast throughout the day.
On the Avalon, there will be a very brief period of snow beginning around 10 a.m. before it changes to rain.
Paul says 15-25 mm of rain is expected which will taper off to showers by Friday evening.
She says strong easterly winds will accompany the system making it blustery, cold and wet. Temperatures are expected to get up to five degrees, however, with the wind and rain, it will be damp.
Paul says strong easterlies usually brings with it Wreckhouse wind warnings. Expect winds of 70-80 km/h with a good chance some areas might reach 100 km/h.
She says the system could see a change over to freezing precipitation in the northeast before changing to rain.
