A popular destination for schools and families will be closed until further notice.

The provincial government says the Salmonier Nature Park will not reopen this spring, and the visitor centre and walking trails will remain closed for the time being.

All educational and outreach programs are also cancelled.

The visitor centre at the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site will also remain closed. Guided tours of the site, which contains fossils of some of the oldest-known animal life, have also been cancelled.

Patrols of the site will continue.
