Police in Central Newfoundland have seized a large quantity of contraband tobacco and arrested a 37-year-old man.
RCMP received information almost a week ago from a Canada Post inspector, who was suspicious of packages destined for La Scie. A week-long investigation by several agencies revealed that the tobacco originated in Alberta.
RCMP pulled over a vehicle in La Scie on Tuesday, seized the contraband and arrested the suspect, who is from the community. He was released to appear in court later.
The tobacco had a street value of about $22,000.
