The current situation surrounding COVID-19 has created challenges for people in all sections of our society, and one of those obstacles is access to food.
Two local artists, Mary Walsh and Louise Moyes, are helping combat that problem through a fundraiser with the Community Centre Alliance Newfoundland and Labrador.
Moyes says during snowmageddon the two worked with various community centres in the area to help people gain access to needed food supplies. With the COVID-19 pandemic, they are seeing many of the same problems rise again.

Walsh notes there are single mothers or people with disabilities, for example, who simply cannot get to a store for a variety of reasons who need the help. The great thing about community centres, she says, is they will know who those people are and will be able to get the necessary supplies to them.
Over $3,000 has been raised for the cause so far. More information can be found on the Fundraising for Food Now: Friends of Community Centres St. John’s fundraising page on Facebook.
