New measures for air, marine and rail passengers in the country are coming into effect today at noon.
Minister of Transportation Marc Garneau says all air passengers must have a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth and nose during travel.
They will be asked to cover their mouth and nose when at Canadian airport screening checkpoints, where screeners cannot always stay two metres away from travelers; when they cannot physically distance from others; and when directed to do so by a public health official.
On arrival and departure, passengers will be asked if they have the necessary face coverings otherwise they will not be allowed to continue on their journey.
Marine, rail, and bus travelers are also encouraged to wear non-medical masks or face coverings whenever possible.
