The leader of the province’s official Opposition is calling on the provincial government to “toughen-up” screening measures at the province’s airports.
PC Leader Ches Crosbie says under current Public Health measures, anyone arriving in Newfoundland and Labrador from outside the province must self-isolate for 14 days.
Crosbie says his caucus members continue to hear stories of travelers who are not being “screened or contacted in any way” after their arrival in the province.
He claims that they are aware of an entire flight arriving from outside the province that he says the provincial government was not even aware of.
He calls that a “communication breakdown” that highlights a larger problem. While some land entry points are policed, Ches claims that Public Health Promotion staff placed at airports do not carry the same force of law.
He says the provincial government needs to ensure that screening measures are enforced at all entry points in the province.
