The Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador says it is not likely students will be returning to classrooms for the remainder of the school year.
Premier Ball says students have been encouraged and prepared to complete their current school year in the system that is now in place.
He says it’s unlikely schools will open up unless there is some drastic change, but they’re working with educators on what’s best moving forward.
He says although the change was rapid, they’re seeing and hearing successes from teachers, students and parents.
Parents Encouraged to Reach Out and Ask About Necessary Supports
The Premier says those with family in the K-12 school system should contact their schools if they feel not enough educational tools are being provided to students.
Those in the province’s Francophone school system have been receiving daily, face-to-face interaction with teachers via online services, something that hasn’t been happening in the English system.
Ball says they’re encouraging the school districts to provide as much support as needed for home learning.
He asks for people to reach out and ask questions as to why they’re not receiving the necessary supports.
The Premier says it’s the responsibility of those within the school system to ensure proper education is provided to students.
