The effects of COVID-19 are being felt across all sections of society, including children.

Jackie Lake-Kavanagh is the province’s Child and Youth Advocate.

She says some children in the province were dealing with some harsh challenges before the COVID-19 pandemic such as poverty and abuse.

Now, many of the supports they were counting on have been reduced or taken away completely.

Lake-Kavanagh says once the pandemic passes, we will need to pay attention to the impact it has had on our youth.

There will be a lot of ground lost in terms of children’s relationships, progress, and services that will need to be re-established. She believes there will need to be a lot of work done in that regard.
