Models on the province’s rate of COVID-19 and public health measures in place show that the collective efforts of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have been successful in flattening the curve.
Dr. Proton Rahman of the MUN’s School of Medicine leads a team put together to collect and analyse the numbers to develop a model on where the virus could go, and the impact of current public health measures.
Dr. Rahman says the numbers show that public health restrictions are working – but it in no way should it be considered a victory yet.
Rahman suggests the most important question is not when can we relax current measures, but are we ready if more cases should occur?
The harder part will come, according to Rahman, when public health measures are lifted because control can be lost right away.
