A woman who lost her teenage daughter in a street racing incident four years ago is appalled at some of the speeds being seen recently by police.
Gail Thorne, whose 18-year-old daughter Hannah was killed on the New Harbour Barrens in July 2016, has made it a mission to educate people on the dangers of speed on the roads. The two men who were racing were convicted in Hannah’s death. She was in a car being driven by her grandmother.
The RCMP and RNC have stopped drivers on the TCH doing incredibly high speeds—as high as 150 to 170 km/h.
As well, RCMP intercepted 13 drivers over a 5-day period, many of whom had no insurance, registration, or driver’s licence.
Gail Thorne told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that such activity is incomprehensible.
