At least one local MHA knows all too well the stress and worry of having a loved one with COVID-19.
Tony Wakeham’s daughter, who lives in London, England, is among those who picked up the virus.
“And it knocked her for a loop,” says Wakeham, who describes his daughter as a young, healthy woman. They don’t know how she came into contact with the illness, and after eight or nine days, she eventually came around. He says she is now doing well.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald yesterday announced the easing of some public health measures. However, travel restrictions to the province come into effect Monday after reports of tourists showing up in Bonavista in defiance of provincial public health orders.
Wakeham, the PC member for Stephenville-Port au Port, says while he agrees with restrictions limiting non-essential travel to the province, it will have an impact on families—including his own.
He says there’ll be no such thing as having your children come home to visit this summer.
