Municipal parks in the City of St. John’s may be open as early as next week, but there is some work to be done.
Mayor Danny Breen says more details about reopening will be announced in the coming days and will be in line with the province’s reopening plan.
Mayor Breen says parks will open including the two major ones—Bannerman and Bowring. He says the city will not be opening playgrounds, sporting facilities, skate parks, hard-surface courts, and dog parks.
Residents are asked to abide by posted signage, continue to social distance, and refrain from using parks for gatherings.
Robin Hood Bay Could Reopen Before May 11
St. John’s will be reopening the residential drop-off at Robin Hood Bay.
Mayor Breen says the facility could open before May 11 if the city is ready, but an announcement will be made in the coming days of the exact date and hours of operation.
Mayor Breen says it will reopen in phases due to the expected demand and to ensure that physical distancing is maintained.
Robin Hood Bay will first open for household garbage only, and will not be collecting recycling, yard waste, bulk items, household hazardous waste, and electronics.
The mayor says there have been many requests from the public to reopen the facility given the time of the year, and the amount of household garbage that has piled up as residents stay home.
