A Facebook Live forum on the pandemic heard of a 5-point plan to improve opportunities for women and to give them more options to report and escape from domestic violence.

The St. John’s Status of Women Council wants the minimum wage raised to a living wage – over $18.00 an hour, free publicly-funded daycare, and a task force on violence against women.

Justice Minister Andrew Parsons last year rejected the task force idea and, instead, created a committee to look at violence against women.

Status of Women spokesperson Laura Winters says a task force would carry far more weight and be much more effective.
