A Frenchman’s Cove family got a surprise this week when they discovered their car had been broken into. The culprit turned out to be a black bear.
Jeff Taylor says he darted out to have a look when they noticed the car’s door was open.
When he went outside, “here was Mr. Bear sitting down in the middle of our lawn,” says Taylor.
Taylor jokes that the bear, the biggest he’s ever seen, must have weighed between 600 and 700 pounds, and must like Toyotas because the bear took a bite out of the car’s back bumper and managed to open the door and get up inside the vehicle.
Taylor says bears are making their way out of the woods this time of the year.
He says conservation officers were quick to respond and have set up a bear trap in the area
