Fish processors say the trip limits imposed on harvesters by them has nothing to do with importing crab from the Maritimes.
Harvesters protested outside the FFAW headquarters on the weekend, saying the price of the product and the trip limitations are making the fishery uneconomical to pursue.
Derek Butler, executive director of the Association of Seafood Producers, says they heard the concerns from harvesters and are working with them.
He says the late start to the fishery is the problem as processors have only so much capacity.
