RCMP are patrolling the border between Canada and France off the south coast of Newfoundland, and are prepared to intercept anyone coming across.
The ferry from Fortune to St. Pierre was idled when the public health restrictions were imposed, so there is little ground travel between the Burin Peninsula and St. Pierre.
However, with fishing season ramping up, RCMP are using fast rescue craft to patrol the waters.
Sgt. Mike Babstock of the RCMP Burin Peninsula says they have not yet had to issue any tickets but are prepared to send people back if they do not have a viable reason for travel.
He says they have spoken to some people on the Newfoundland side of the border but they expect to see more traffic in the area now that the fishery has opened
