Husky has finished installation of a replacement flow line connector near the South White Rose Extension Drill Centre. That’s where an oil spill happened last November.
That portion of the White Rose field has been shut in since that time.
The company expected some residual hydrocarbon releases during the operation. The total volume was 26 litres, which is consistent with their expectations. Husky says none created a sheen on the water’s surface. The supply vessel Atlantic Hawk was on scene with spill response equipment if needed.
This connector has a higher load capacity than the one which failed in November when about 250,000 litres of oil spilled into the ocean. They are also installing strengthening clamps to production flowlines with the same connector type in the North Amethyst and South White Rose Extension drill centres.
Husky does not yet know when production will resume.
